Do You Think...

My child likes his stroller or what?!!

My sweet friend Jennifer captured these the other night when we were both attending the daycare/preschool's open house for my Colton and her Braxton.

R.J. was actually tipping the stroller back (much to the dismay and chiding of his momma) and when he would bring it back down KER-PLUNK, Colton would just shriek with laughter.

Amazing how so many potentially dangerous "tricks" (according to R.J.) bring so much joy to children...Gheesh!

Nevertheless, his sweet, giggly smile is priceless!

Note To Self...

In the future do NOT let husband [military reservist] send a note with son/grandson for father-in-law/grandfather to give to barber at local air force base because husband was unable to take son himself.

Why?

Because barber did EXACTLY what husband [military reservist] instructed on the note (without father-in-law/grandfather interruption) and thus, this result for my son...

Thank goodness that:

(1)  My son's hair grows extremely fast,

(2)  The start of school is still three weeks away,

(3)  School pictures are even further out than that, and

(4)  He's an 8 year old boy who really doesn't care all that much yet about what his hair looks like.

P.S.  Remember to make hair appointment at MY stylist for son's next haircut!  ;0)

It's Been A Long Time In Coming, But...

Colton FINALLY (praise the Lord) PICKED up (all on his own) and DRANK from (rather than fling it around in the air) his sippy cup today at daycare!!!

See...

I know, I know, I bet most of you are saying to yourselves, "Big deal, he's 13 months old.  He should be drinking from a sippy cup already!"

Well, let me tell you, it is a big deal...for us.

You see, I have come to find out (and accept) that this little guy does things in his own time and in his own way.

Nope, no following in his big brother's ahead-of-schedule milestones.

Nuh, uh, not gonna do it...lol!

Of course, this has been a point of conversation (initiated by me of course) with his daycare caregivers/teachers and myself, so when Colton peformed this feat today Ms. Jessica was sweet enough to capture it on her cell phone.

Honestly, I think she was just as excited as I was about it!

Sippy cup today...walking tomorrow.

Well, we're not quite there yet either, but while he's on a roll, who knows?!

First Birthday Fun!

Okay, so like most things recently, I am a little late (okay, okay, just translate that to WAY late) in posting A-GAIN...so sorry folks.

Well, like the title says...Colton had is first birthday party and ironically, June 5th fell on a weekend so we planned it for then.

How perfect?!

Awhile back I had read about another blogger, The Macs, who did a really cute first birthday party for her son centered around him turning one...in a flash (see here).

I really liked that idea when I saw it on her blog and I bookmarked it in the back of my mind so that I could do something like that for Colton's first...and I did.

Here was Colton's invite...

I decided to play up the word "flash" by emphasizing a film/movie theme and tied the party decorations to that idea...

When guests arrived I had them sign in as the "supporting cast"...

I really tried to stick to the movie/film theme in the decor and such...

As party food, in addition to the hot popcorn, we had hot dogs with fixin's and I did a BIG cake for everyone and a smash cake for Colton...

Party favors were glass jars filled with m and m's and popcorn boxes filled with a mini bag of microwave popcorn, plastic funny big nose and mustache eyeglasses, a director's clapboard picture frame key chain, and their very own Hollywood star (wand)...

As part of the decor, I printed pictures of Colton from one day old all the way to 11 months old so guests could see how much he had changed and grown (in a flash) during the past year...

Some of the most fun we had was having guests do funny frames. I hung two picture frames from a door jam and had silly photo props for them to use. Then, we had everyone ham it up for the camera...

And what's a party without games and activities?

We had scooter races...

A popcorn throw...

Picture "production"...

Water balloons...

Capture the flag...

And, of course, a pinata smash...

Then it was cake time...

Colton was not too keen on the idea of his very own smash cake...

He liked the presents though...

But, he liked his balloon the BEST of all!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Colton...

Happy Birthday to YOU!
